They must be very distressed, looking for some mature adult to contain them and help them give this endless process an assimilable meaning for their identity and esteem. They no longer need mush in their mouths, they just don’t need to be made mincemeat of.
Above all, what they urgently need today is to be protected from the prurient gaze of the world, which sadistically eats from the wretched table to which mommy and daddy invited us all, including forgotten brands.
Casio and Twingo also found in the invitation to this monetizable intimacy the fresh carrion to revitalize their positioning. Revitalize? Yes, brands feed on consumers, not on psychological or family health. True, some do it with category and respect, that’s why they endure.
When the parental law falls down, we can only expect something bad in the maturational development of children and for the integration of society. When this law is replaced by the laws of the market — a characteristic phenomenon of our hypermodernity — the prognosis is much worse.
Market capitalism requires things, not othernesses. Let us not get confused and let us exercise healthy suspicion: when diversity, inclusion and respect are promoted by the market, it is because they are necessary to be consumed, not to re-found the ethics of our coexistence.
That is why when millions of adults happily consume the products of this perverse business, taking a stand for Shakira or Piqué, they are modeling the same misguidance, for themselves, for their children and for the society we form.
Then we will be surprised by events of juvenile, institutional and communicational violence that we find “inexplicable”. They can be explained, if we delay the “like” and “play” for a few seconds, take a reflective distance and choose not to be sleepy accomplices of the darkest faces of our post-modernity.
Milan and Sasha did not choose this experience to which the two “successful” characters they have as parents are subjecting them. We can choose not to contribute via streaming one more dollar to the obese fortunes of both and stand at a healthy distance from the stupid sympathies that such cruel behavior arouses.
Let’s do it for Milan and Sasha, because they are us. All of us.
